In October 2006, the Brew House on Pittsburgh's South Side will host The Eighth Annual Black Sheep Puppet Festival. The Black Sheep is an international showcase of contemporary innovations in puppetry as an art form and performance medium. It is well known in the industry for its willingness to embrace bold experimentation and ability to challenge the boundaries of this ancient and traditional art. At eight years in a row, it is also one of the longest and steadiest festivals in the world.
A month-long series of events highlights the craft, community, education, and performance aspects of puppetry. The Eighth Annual festival is extremely fortunate to welcome Artist-in-Residence Beth Nixon for a collaborative gallery installation created with Pittsburgh community groups.
This year's festival is curated by Tom Sarver along with guest curator Morgan Andrews.
The Black Sheep Puppet Festival is made possible by The Brew House Association, the Heinz Endowments, an anonymous donor, Performance Lighting, and individual contributions. The Brew House ia 501c(3) non-profit organization.
